Week 6 Assignment 2:1

 The article "Middle School Science Teachers’ Confidence and Pedagogical Practice of New Literacies," discussed why technology is often not implemented enough in the classroom. Many teachers understand that technology is important yet don't use it, mainly due to lack of technological resources and  lack of confidence on their part. I agree that is important to use technology as an educational tool in the classroom. Therefore, schools should ensure that there is access to technology. In addition, teachers should attend workshops to learn how to implement technology in their classroom. Since technology keeps on advancing, it is important to remain up to date and keep on attending workshops to make the most of what technology has to offer.

The second article, "Using Social Networking Sites to Facilitate Teaching and Learning," emphasizes the importance of implementing ICT'S and discusses how social media sites, such as Edmodo, are user friendly and can be an effective way to teach students. I agree that teachers should make use of social media sites to teach students new literacies and enhance instruction. In my classroom, I hope to use social media sites and use technology correctly to provide my students with the ultimate learning experience. Although it takes work, implementing technology is truly a worthwhile investment!

Week 3 Assignment 1 and 2: New Literacies

  Assignment 1: With the advancements of technology, there have been so many changes to the word, including in literacy instruction. While teaching literacy used to include the use of books, papers and pens, it is no longer sufficient. Nowadays, students must become familiar with new literacies to be successful in the future. For instance, they must learn to navigate the internet, research information and engage in multimedia to acquire literacy. There are many benefits to implementing new literacies. Week 4 Assignments

 Assignment 1: The game Carrie the Caregiver is a great way to teach students time management skills and responsibility. The game does not include much text aside from the instructions and how much points gained or lost. Players see what the baby needs by the thought bubbles with pictures coming from the crying babies. The visual-graphic elements include everything in 3D and the player drags Carrie and the babies around to perform the tasks. The audio elements include music playing and babies screaming in the background to give the game a realistic feel and engage the player in the game. The goal of the game is to keep the babies happy and attend to their needs quickly. The rules are to drag Carrie around to perform the tasks and to make each baby happy before it is too late.
